Kobe Bryant will always be remembered for his 20-year, hall of fame, NBA career. He will also be remembered for his “Mamba Mentality.” According to Wikipedia, the black mamba is a species of large, extremely venomous snake belonging to the family Elapidae. It is native to parts of sub-Saharan Africa.Despite its reputation as a formidable and highly aggressive species, the black mamba attacks humans only if it is threatened or cornered. It makes perfect sense that Kobe’s nickname was Black Mamba. He was an assassin at the highest level. No one out worked Kobe. On and off the court. He’s a 5x NBA Champion, 2x Finals MVP, NBA MVP in 2008, 18x NBA all-star, 4x all-star MVP, 11x NBA 1st team player, 9x NBA all defensive 1st team, 2x NBA scoring champion, and one of the 10 greatest basketball players of ALL TIME. Kobe was a legend in his 20 years in the NBA as a Los Angeles Lakers.
On January 26th, 2020 Kobe Bryant and His daughter Gigi passed away in a fatal helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. They were in the private helicopter traveling to a basketball tournament with 7 other people. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. It was a Sunday, and I had just gotten home from a walk with my mom. It crushed me to hear the news that one of my favorite players had past away. When you’ve watched someone play for 20+ years, and seen him grow into the player that Kobe had become, you feel like you know him. The pain of his death was real.
The NBA world took the news of his passing hard. People from all over the world came to pay their respects to Kobe and his daughter Gigi. His funeral was televised, and most NBA players attend his special memorial at the Staples Center. Although Kobe entertained us with his amazing basketball talents for over 20 years, it was his daughter Gigi who he was most proud of. She was only 13 years old, but had such a bright future in basketball. I know she would have been great, just like her father.
