Matt Lauer FIRED! Sexual Misconduct at Sochi Olympics
By Mr. Shawn B December 1, 2017
Matt Lauer’s famed television career has come to an end. Tuesday night, Lauer was fired as NBC’s co-host of the “Today Show” for an allegation of inappropriate sexual behavior towards a female employee of the station. MSN.com reported that NBC decided to dismiss it’s star morning anchor after a woman met with network executives on Monday to describe her interactions with him. May I remind you, that Lauer has been working for NBC for over 20 years. He has been the host for many different big events the network has featured during his time there. The Thanksgiving day parade, and the Summer and Winter Olympics, just to name a few. His accuser stated that his inappropriate behavior first started during 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. So now, let me explain to you how Matt Lauer’s week has been.
Monday Evening: NBC executives met with a woman, who was employed at the network, to discuss her interaction with the station’s beloved co-host. She explained to them Matt Lauer’s actions at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Said that his inappropriate actions towards her continued, even after they got back to New York. Seeing as how it’s almost 2018 now, it’s funny that someone would come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct that happened over 3 years ago. But take this into account while you read this. Matt Lauer is an extremely powerful man, in a very high position. It is very possible that she was scared to come forward in fear of no one believing her story. NBC believed her. They actually took it very seriously.
Tuesday Night: NBC FIRED Matt Lauer after 20 years. He had just signed a 20 million dollar contract extension in 2016. The network stated that Lauer had been let go due to inappropriate sexual misconduct. They didn’t even let 24 hours go by before they let him go. All that tells me, is that they knew, or had an idea about what Matt had been doing to women around the station.
“On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our companies standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment. While it’s the first complaint about his behavior in over 20 years he’s been at NBC news, were were also presented with reason to believe THIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN AN ISOLATED INCIDENT.” –statement from NBC news chairman, Andy Lack
Wednesday: According to the variety.com, Matt Lauer was doing a lot more things to other female employees than had been reported from the Winter Olympics. The website released some extremely FLAGRANT information about Lauer on Wednesday. The site states that he once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present. Another time, he called a female employee into his office and dropped his pants, showing her his penis. The woman declined his advancements, so he reprimanded her for not having sex with him. Around the station, he would quiz women producers about who they slept with, and played games to express which of the women he would sleep with. Variety.com met with 3 different woman, all have accused Lauer of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct. All have asked to remain unanimous in fear of professional repercussions.
Thursday: Matt Lauer released his statement after being fired from NBC. “Some of what is being said about me is untrue and mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly. There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by my words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this, I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.”
Matt Lauer knew what he did was wrong, he just knew he could get away with it. With the power of being one of the most famous anchors in the world, he knew his co-workers would go along with his advancements, from fear of losing their job. Or at least the wouldn’t tell on him. We have seen a lot this lately from men in high power. But now, it seems like more and more women are coming forward about what is happening to them. The Olympics is a major event, and I’m sure the woman who accused Lauer of sexual misconduct was terrified to come forward in fear of losing her job. 4 years it took her to come out, and speak on what had happened to her. At least, she finally did it, but it seems that she has been dealing with him ever since that day.
