Mike Tyson preparing for comeback at 54?

Mike Tyson has been training hard for some odd reason lately. The 54-year-old hasn’t fought professionally, since 2005. His last fight, he actually quit abruptly in the seventh round against Kevin McBride. According to Wikipedia, Tyson didn’t even expect to win his last fight. He had already lost 2 or the 3 previous fights, and only wanted a pay day. He had lost his love for the sport. Despite the terrible ending to Mike Tyson’s career, people only remember him for being an absolute beast in the ring. The man who has 50 wins in his career, with 44 knockouts! The man that would win a fight, before it even started with his scary demeanor. The man who would knock you out in the first round with no hesitation. Yes he had a million problems outside of the ring, but that only added intrigue to who he was. The scariest fighter of all time!

In 2020, it seems that Mike Tyson is trying to rekindle his love for boxing. When I first heard that Mike was training again, and looking to make a comeback, I thought it was a joke. The very notion that a fighter, who hasn’t fought professionally in 15 years, would make a comeback is laughable. And then I saw his training video. The Mike Tyson we saw on the movie “The Hangover” is gone. Iron Mike is back!  At 54-years-old, Tyson looks in better shape than he did when he finished his career in 2005. But is he in shape enough to fight professional boxers in their prime?

When the reports first came out about Mike Tyson fighting again, they said it would be for charity. Maybe a 3 round fight with Evander Holyfield because they are around the same age. After seeing Tyson’s training video, I know that can’t happen. Tyson would kill him. So who can Tyson fight to make things interesting? Even though Mike is 5’10”, he fights in the heavyweight division. When he was at the top of his boxing career, he punished taller fighters by getting in close and working their body. Then of course, he would finish them off with a knockout blow to the head. At age 54, I don’t know if that will work. Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Deontay Wilder are the top 3 heavyweights in the sport of boxing right now. Despite Mike Tyson looking like an absolute force, I don’t believe he would be able to do much fighting them. But who else could he fight? The first person that came to mind, was Luis Ortiz. A very respected name in the world of boxing, who also is popular enough to draw decent money on a pay-per-view fight. Whoever he winds up fight against, whether it be for charity or professionally, I’m here for it! Sign me up for anything that has to do with Mike Tyson fighting again.
